Increase Performance of your Dino with a Better Power Supply
There are three options available to power the Dino Mk3 - the Toroidal AC supply, the ‘Dino+’ dc supply and the ‘Never Connected Dino+’ DC supply.
As you go up the range you benefit by an increase in audio performance.
All three power supplies are in separate boxes to keep noise and hum levels as far away as possible from the sensitive audio circuits and are available in the following options:
- 230V operation with UK or European mains plug
- 115V operation with USA style mains plug
Toroidal AC Power Supply

This is the basic power supply and is provided as a low cost introduction.
Performance level will be more than adequate for many users, but you can upgrade at any time to the ‘Dino+’ power supply, or for ultimate sonic performance - the ‘Never Connected Dino+’ PSU.
The ABS molded housing of the Toroidal power supply contains an in-line low noise 40VA transformer. AC current is fed to the Dino where it is rectified to DC and regulated with two high performance, wide bandwidth Super Regulators.

‘Dino+’ Power Supply
The ‘Dino +’ Power Supply unit is made up of two completely independent and electrically isolated dc supply circuits, one for the positive voltage rail and one for the negative.
The specially made low noise audio 80VA toroidal transformer is followed by two independent bridge rectifiers. These are built with discrete ultra fast soft recovery diodes for low RF generation. The bridges are then followed by RC/RC filtering using four high performance, low ESR 1800uF Panasonic capacitors. Two voltage regulators provide solid and stable supply voltages.
This level of filtering and regulation provides you with a substantial increase in performance over the Toroidal supply.
Solid imaging and depth to the music are the main benefits.
Power is delivered from the ‘Dino+’ to the phono stage via a 4 way PTFE insulated, silver plated copper lead. This lead is upgrade-able to our ‘High Performance Interconnect Lead’.
‘Never Connected Dino+’ DC Power Supply
Never Connected ‘Dino+’ PSU
The NCPSU has completely different electronics to the standard ‘Dino+’ power supply.. Instead of an oversized toroidal transformer, there is a PCB mounting variety followed by our revolutionary noise reduction circuitry that is called ‘Never Connected’.
Although the regulation circuit is physically connected to the incoming mains, it is disconnected electrically. A monitoring circuit detects the portion of the sine wave that is charging the first of a pair of electrolytic capacitors. Once this first capacitor is fully charged, the diode bridge rectifier turns off and a MOSFET switching circuit transfers the charge from the first cap to the second. This cycle is repeated continuously.
At no point in time is the regulation circuitry electrically connected to the incoming rectified mains - hence the term ‘Never Connected’. The overall result is a large and measurable reduction in mains borne noise.
This dramatic reduction of mains borne noise enables the Dino phono circuit to give of its very best. As with the ‘Dino+’ PSU power is delivered to the phono stage via a 4 way PTFE insulated, silver plated copper lead. This lead is upgrade-able to our ‘High Performance Interconnect Lead’.
